Top Tips: How to Get Soft and Smooth Body Skin

It’s normal to get caught up in the everyday’s hustle and bustle and ignore our skin's needs. Sometimes, we’re so busy that we can hardly make time for a skincare regimen. Our lack of attention to our skin can make it prone to many skincare concerns such as dryness and roughness. You’re probably wondering how this happens. Allow me to explain.

What Causes Skin Dryness?

Some skin types are more prone to dryness than others. There is a range of reasons as to why this occurs. Here are some to keep in mind:

  • If you're from a colder climate, your skin might experience dryness. This occurs because the cold weather conditions discourage the retention of water in the skin, and moisture evaporates much faster from the skin's surface.
  • Just as the intense cold is bad for your skin, so is extreme heat. If you’re a fan of taking hot showers or spending long hours by the fireplace or radiator, now’s the time to stop what you’re doing! Intense heat absorbsfrom your skin, thereby drying it out. If you're feeling especially cold, instead of putting your skin through all this trouble, wear a warm sweater.
  • Using skincare products with harsh chemicals in them can also expose your skin to dryness. Some chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laurel sulfate, and sodium chloride absorb the moisture from your skin, leaving it looking rough and cracked. These chemicals should be avoided. Switch to products that use pure, organic, and natural ingredients for a better experience.

Now let me also tell you the secrets to get softer and smoother skin.

How Can You Get Softer and Smoother Skin?

Before you try any of these tips, it’s important to remember that consistency is the key. If you have a skincare routine, follow it on a daily or weekly basis as per the recipe or product you’re using.

Here are our top tips to soften bodily skin:

Tip 1: ExfoliateYour Skin

The first tip is to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation is when you scrub off the dirt and grime present on the top layer of your skin. Scrubbing helps remove dryness, flaky patches, and dead skin cells to reveal a soft layer underneath. You can use a range of products for the exfoliation process. A body scrub is ideal, and we have the perfect one for you. The Botanic Hearth African Black Soap Body Scrub will leave your skin feeling softer. Take a palm-sized amount of the product in your hand and rub it onto the desired areas of the body.  If you prefer gentle exfoliation, we would recommend exfoliation using essential oils.

Here is a DIY recipe for a sugar scrub made with essential oils:

  • Add 1/4 cup of brown sugar.
  • Add 1/4 cup of white sugar.
  • Add 1/2 cup of coconut oil.
  • Add 5 drops of Botanic Hearth Orange Essential Oil
  • Add 5 drops of Botanic Hearth Lavender Essential Oil
  • Add 5 drops of Botanic Hearth Lemongrass Essential Oil
  • Mix the ingredients well
  • Scrub onto desired areas of the body with a body brush in the shower
  • Rinse with water after scrubbing
  • Repeat once a week

Tip 2: Moisturize Your Skin

If you have dry skin, your moisturizer is your best friend. Moisturizing your skin is beneficial because it promotes skin's firmness, makes it feel smooth, and leaves it looking glowing. It is even better to use natural ingredients that promote water retention in the skin. The Botanic Hearth Lavender Body Wash is designed to soothe and moisturize skin. Body washes are preferred over traditional bar soaps because they contain skin-softeners and are more hydrating for the skin. Pour the body wash onto a body brush and rub onto your body in circular motions. This method of application will cleanse your skin and leave it feeling softer and smoother. You can also moisturize your skin with many other natural products. We recommend trying essential oils with your favorite moisturizer:

  • Add 1/2 cup of a moisturizer of your choice
  • Add 2 drops of Botanic Hearth Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Add 2 drops ofBotanic Hearth Lavender Essential Oil
  • Add 1 drop of Botanic Hearth Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Mix the ingredients well
  • Rub the mixture onto desired areas of the body with your fingertips
  • Repeat twice weekly

Tip 3: Oil Your Skin

We’ve all heard of oiling our scalp but some might be taken aback by the idea of oiling our skin. Trust me when I say it is gaining momentum in the personal care world. One of the reasons our skin gets dry is because our sebaceous glands produce less sebum. Oiling your skin can soothe this type of dryness.

Here’s how:

  • Add 1 cup of coconut oil
  • Add 5 drops of Botanic Hearth Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Add 5 drops of Botanic Hearth Lemongrass Essential Oil
  • Apply on desired areas of the body with your fingertips
  • Leave the mixture for 10-15 minutes
  • Take a damp washcloth
  • Gently dab the washcloth on the skin to remove excess oil
  • Repeat once a week

Tip 4: Stay Hydrated

The journey to beauty begins from within. This means what you put inside your body in the form of food and drink is just as important as the products you apply to your skin. If you have dry skin, chances are you're not drinking enough water. Increasing water intake can leave your skin looking softer. If you do not like the taste of water, here is something that might help you drink it more often:

  • Take a glass of water
  • Cut a slice of lemon
  • Add the lemon to the water
  • Drink 7-8 times a day

The lemon in the drink gives the water a certain flavor while offering the benefits of vitamin C. You can replace the lemon with your choice of berries or citrus fruits. Drink up!

Tip 5: Exercise

It's time to get the laundry off your exercise equipment because it is our last tip for soft and smooth skin. Regular exercise encourages skin firmness and elasticity because muscles are kept tight. What we want from a workout is a good amount of sweat. The sweat will lubricate the skin and also give it a natural glow. All you have to do is put in 10-15 minutes of exercise a day.
