Body washes are prevalently used all around the world and considered as a sustainable and affordable option than soaps. Their popularity lies in the fact that they are easy to use, form rich leather with just a few drops and keep the skin hydrated, healthy and fresh. In contrast, the traditional bar soaps commonly have a higher pH level, which is harsh on the skin and can cause dryness and sensitivity.
Skin sensitivity leads to irritation, itchiness, and redness can cause many skincare concerns. Liquid soaps have hydrating and cleansing properties that gently draw out impurities without stripping the skin's natural oils. Because of their moisturizing and hydrating properties, liquid soaps are a new favorite in the personal hygiene industry.
Although there are many varieties of body washes available in the market, you can also create a liquid soap/body wash with essential oils at home. Essential oils have a long history of therapeutic and beautifying use in diverse cultures since ancient times. These aromatic oils exhibit a pleasant and refreshing scent and have many skin-nourishing properties. Essential oils are popularly used as ingredients in natural skincare and hair care recipes because of their many benefits. They are mostly known for purifying, exfoliating and soothing properties that are therapeutic for skin and scalp.
Here is an easy DIY Body Wash recipe with the use of essential oils to nourish and cleanse your skin:
- Glass pump bottle (8 ounces)
- Unscented castile soap (1/2 cup)
Castile soap exfoliates dead skin cells, cleanses off impurities and excess oils, and protects the skin against environmental toxins. It hydrates dry skin, soothes irritation and itchiness, promoting healthier, smoother, and softer skin. It is gentle on the skin and free of any harsh chemicals. It is a healthy alternative to commercial based soaps. Castile soap is mostly made of plant oils and is suitable for all skin types.
- Vegetable glycerin (4 tablespoons)
Vegetable glycerin has moisturizing and nourishing properties. It calms dryness, itchiness, and redness, improving the skin's look and appearance. Moreover, vegetable glycerin will add a thicker and creamier lather to the body wash, making your body wash sustainable.
- Fractionated coconut oil (3 tablespoons)
Fractionated coconut oil is a liquid form of coconut oil. It has medium-chain fatty acids that penetrate the skin without leaving a sticky residue. It hydrates, nourishes, and soothes the skin, keeping it soft, smooth, and supple.
- Any essential oil of your choice (10 drops)
Each essential oil has a distinct scent and unique therapeutic properties. Some of the essential oils have a sharp and strong scent, and others have a pleasant and sweet scent. You can add any essential oil into this body wash recipe based on your skin type and personal preference.
